Sharp Corporation is a Japanese electronics manufacturer, founded in 1912. It takes its name from one of its founder's first inventions, the Ever-Sharp mechanical pencil, which was invented by Tokuji Hayakawa in 1915. Since then it has developed into one of the leading electronics companies in the world. During the 80's they were a big producer of video cassette players, they built high quality players that cost more than todays Bluray players. These days they produce fridges, computers, mobile phones and more recently ventured into the world of HDTV. They were previously big with producing the silver 68 cm WEGA style TV, but have since disappeared. In the projector market they are still a big player and most consumers would consider its range. Retailers are now beginning to take in these new products as demand for flat panel TV's begin to rise and consumers more choices in products.
